Why Should You Be Thankful for Dental Implants?

A family showing gratitude during Thanksgiving

With Thanksgiving nearly here, you’ve likely gotten into the holiday spirit. Maybe you’re reflecting on life’s blessings – family, friends, faith, etc. Still, don’t forget about your restored smile. There are many reasons to be thankful for dental implants right now. As it happens, these prosthetics do a lot to improve your quality of life. If you need some examples, your Whitinsville dentist will share some. Here are four big reasons to be grateful for implants on Thanksgiving.

They Boost Oral Health

When you lose teeth, it isn’t just your looks that suffer; your oral health also declines.

You see, tooth loss can lead to dental issues. Smile gaps are breeding grounds for harmful bacteria, raising your risk of gum disease. Furthermore, they often tilt your surrounding teeth. This latter process can then result in further tooth loss.

Luckily, dental implants fill those gaps. That means bacteria will have fewer places where they can multiply. Plus, filling the spaces keeps your remaining teeth from tilting.

They Look Lifelike

In the past, prosthetic teeth could look notably fake. Their color or size might not match the rest of your smile. However, today’s dental implants don’t have this problem.

If you didn’t already know, implants are capped with dental crowns. These restorations use high-grade porcelain that blends with your enamel. So, implants look very lifelike and don’t stand out from your other teeth. Friends and family won’t even notice that they’re artificial.

They Help You Eat

As you’d expect, lacking teeth makes meals difficult. You need a full set of pearly whites to chew food properly. That said, not all tooth replacements solve the issue well. Dentures can slip or fall during meals, and dental bridges can sometimes get loose.

Of course, dental implants are different. By fusing with your jaw, they remain secure and restore much of your chewing ability. (Studies suggest they can bring out 85% of your natural bite force.) As such, they’ll let you eat your favorite tough foods on Thanksgiving!

They Stop Facial Collapse

Besides making gaps in your grin, tooth loss can age your face. Your jaw needs all your chompers to preserve its bone tissue. Otherwise, your jawbone slowly erodes. Left unchecked, that process triggers facial collapse – a condition that makes your face seem hollow and saggy.

Even here, though, implants come to the rescue. Since they fuse with your jaw, they stimulate your jawbone to produce bone tissue. The result is a face that looks fuller, firmer, and more youthful.

Indeed, there are various reasons to be thankful for dental implants. Remember the ones above as you celebrate this year’s Thanksgiving!
